Ten Minutes Later…

“We’re ready?” Roger asked the twins on either side of him.

“Everything upstairs is clean. Liz, how about downstairs?” Daniel asked.

“The kitchen’s as it was before.” Elizabeth’s foot tapped the hardwood floor. “No one will know we were here so long as the tech wonder boy here doesn’t fuck up.”

Roger leaned in close to the rectangular box and twisted the screwdriver. “Just a minute or two and I’ll be good.”

“Who’s calling this one in?” Elizabeth asked.

Daniel whipped out his phone. “I will after we’re back in the car.”

“Won’t they find it a little odd to have an anonymous tip on a private household’s bedroom business?” Roger asked as he placed the front cover back on. “There, it’s like we were never here. Now just leave quickly.” He shoved them toward the door.

“Dude, what the hell?” Daniel asked, stumbling out of the door.

“Talk about rude.” Elizabeth regained her composure and stole a glance at Roger.

Roger inched the door closed and let loose a heaving breath. “Sorry about that. It can be a little touchy when I’m rearming the system. Sometimes they don’t give you as much time as the model I’m used to. Better safe than sorry”

The group walked side by side out of the wooden gate. “Time to make the call, Bro,” Elizabeth said leading the group toward the car.

Daniel pressed three buttons and raised the phone to his ear. “Yes, I’d like to file a complaint. I heard loud screaming, crashing, and I could have sworn I heard a gunshot. Location? 1378 Yosemite Avenue. Yes, I think someone’s hurt. You should send someone straight away. Thank you.” He immediately hung up. “It’s done. Let’s get out of here.” He threw the phone onto the asphalt, pulled out his sidearm and shot the device, shattering it into pieces beside the car. He bent down and collected almost all the pieces, leaving only a few.

“If only you were as polite to everyone,” Elizabeth said, swinging open the back-seat door and climbing inside.

Roger leaned down and picked up the remaining pieces of the phone, shoving them into his coat pockets.

Daniel circled around the car and plopped into the passenger side. He slammed the door shut and looked to his left. “Holy shit, he’s still here. Color me surprised you didn’t wander off.”

“Piss off,” Bruce growled.

“I’d watch it if I were you,” Daniel said through gritted teeth. “Now get us out of here.”

Daniel reclined his chair as the van shifted into gear. “This went pretty well, considering.”

Roger hurried into the car and slammed the door shut. “Not to be a wet blanket here, but I mean is this really okay? Her husband is dead now.” He glanced out the window as the van started moving away from the scene of their latest crime.

Elizabeth placed a palm on Roger’s knees. “Don’t worry. They had no idea who we were. If she starts spouting off about intruders, they’ll stick her ass in the psych ward.”

“Assuming they don’t think she’s trying to cover up her own crime,” Daniel chimed in from the front.
